Alabama Ghost Stories: The Old Lady in the Inn

Built in 1897 the Kate Shepard House Bed and Breakfast is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Mobile, Alabama. The Queen Anne Victorian mansion in the Old Dauphin Way Historic District was built from a catalog and assembled in Knoxville, Tennessee then shipped to Mobile on 13 rail cars.

Guests that stay in the old house have claimed to see the spirit of an old woman believed to be Kate Shepard, who lived in the home until her death in 1952. The matronly woman has been spotted roaming the halls on random occasions. Some lucky guests have even seen her in their rooms late at night!

In addition to the ghostly lady, appliances and lights have been known to not work properly when the ghost is said to be close by. Plates and other breakable items have also unexplainably fallen to the floor when no one is even in the room.
