The Ghost of Windsor Keefer

In the 1890s Windsor A. Keefer was the respected part-owner of the Jupiter mine and well known around San Francisco. But one day, after setting out on a hunting trip in the mountains, he vanished without a trace. No one ever saw him again, and whispers of his death soon spread. Years later, his name resurfaced when strange happenings were reported in the very building where Keefer had once lived. One night, his neighbor, Millie Hassler saw a pale, sunken-eyed figure with a white beard in front of her, floating silently toward the door of Keefer’s old room before dissolving into thin air. Terrified, yet certain of what she had seen, Hassler insisted it was the ghost of Windsor Keefer.

Though frightened, she was convinced it was Keefer, returned in spirit. Hassler also believed he had once saved her life years earlier during a terrible fire, when an unseen force pushed her away from the flames moments before the structure collapsed. To her, there was no doubt—the ghost of Windsor Keefer lingered in those halls, a presence both haunting and protective.
