Tennessee Ghost Stories: Oaklands Mansion

In 1798 Revolutionary War hero Colonel Hardy Murfree bought land a large tract of land in Murfreesboro. After his death, his daughter, Sally Murfree Manet settled onto the property and built a simple two room structure that over time became the opulent Oakland鈥檚 Mansion.

Today people claim to see Sally throughout the house, often in her husband鈥檚 office and the stairs. She鈥檚 also been spotted looking out of an upstairs window from time to time. According to legend, she’s mourning the loss of several of her children who died from cholera in the 1800s.

Oakland鈥檚 is one of the most haunted old homes in Murfreesboro. If you鈥檇 like to learn more about the house, check out my book Southern Ghost Stories: Murfreesboro, Spirits of Stones River.
