Tennessee Ghost Stories: The Old Postmaster

Known best as the South Jackson Civic Center in Tullahoma, the structure is actually pieced together by several buildings, including the city’s first public school that was built in the 1880s.

The Civic Center serves its community with an auditorium, a museum and other facilities. Oh, did I forget to mention it’s also extremely haunted?

According to legend, a lady hanged herself in a bathroom in the early 20th century. Staff members have heard crying and screams coming from that part of the building ever since.

But the spirit of the young lady isn’t the only ghost at the Civic Center. Children have not only been heard laughing in various parts of the building, but young boys and girls wearing clothing from a different time have been spotted running and scooting toys across the floor.

Perhaps even strangest of all is a picture of an old postmaster inside the building. According to those who have performed in the building, they have noticed that his eyes turn different colors during performances. It’s said that he prefers comedies and light hearted plays. Typically if it’s something dark, his eyes will turn jet black by the end of the night.
