Tennessee Ghost Stories: Sensabaugh Tunnel

Built in the 1920s, the Sensabaugh Tunnel in Kingsport, Tennessee is said to be one of the creepiest places in the Tri-Cities.

During construction of the tunnel in the early 20th century, there was a mishap with some dynamite that resulted in the death of some of the workers. In addition to the accident, there are several other gruesome stories that revolve around the murder of several members the Sensabaugh family, one of which was a baby.

Regardless of which story you have heard, or believe, strange things have been known to take place inside the dark 165 foot long tunnel. In addition to the apparition of a woman that has often been seen inside the structure, a blood curdling scream and the sound of a baby crying have also been heard.

The strangest story I heard about the Sensabaugh Tunnel revolves around a local woman who had recently washed her car earlier in the day. As she drove through the eerie tunnel, she was stunned to find dirty handprints all over her windshield as she exited.
